One day, a man and his son were walking in the forest and observing all the marvels that nature had to offer. As they continued walking and taking in all the beauty, they stumbled upon a Chrysalis with a butterfly about to emerge. The little boy stood in amazement as he watched the butterfly exiting the Chrysalis.
After watching for the better part of a half hour, the little boy noticed that the butterfly was struggling and was not exiting the Chrysalis as fast as he thought it should, so he went over to his back pack to get his boy scout knife. He very cautiously and carefully cut the Chrysalis so the butterfly could emerge more easily!
After he cut the Chrysalis, the butterfly emerged, stood perched on the branch from which the Chrysalis was attached and did nothing! The little boy watched and watched, only to see that something was wrong! The butterfly was not flying away!
The little boy called over to his dad to ask what had happened...why didn't the butterfly fly away? The dad came over and saw what had happened and explained it to his son...
The butterfly MUST struggle to exit the cocoon in order to force the fluids from it's body to nurture and fill the wings. By cutting the Chrysalis, the butterfly did not have the struggle nor the proper amount of fluid to fill the wings so that it could fly!
Struggle and suffering are hardly ever met with a good attitude, however, struggle can be a necessary ingredient to lead you to search for answers from a book, tape, mentor or coach, and take you in a direction that you could have only dreamed of.
Next time you are being challenged, look at the experience as an opportunity to learn and grow from...it can be the turning point of your life for the better, or remain a stumbling block to be used as a story that prevented you from accomplishing what you truly desired.
