Power or Strength?

One of the definitions of power is the ability or capacity to perform or act effectively.  A definition of strength is the state, property, or quality of being strong.  We are taught somehow that power is what will give us what we want in life. Are we talking about power over others, or power over ourselves?

Powering others can change the behavior of someone else although it will not change someone. Think about this in your professional and personal life! How and what do you communicate, both verbally and non-verbally, to your employees, your spouse, or your children? Feeling that you need to power someone comes from fear and when we try to control others, this does not serve us or them!

When we talk about power over ourselves, this is a different subject entirely! Power over ourselves comes from inner strength! This serves us and others in every aspect of our lives. Inner strength is saying what we want to say, doing what we want to do, believing in what we want to believe and being who we want to be that serves others and ourselves!

When we are in integrity with ourselves, liking us, accepting us and finding what satisfies us most, we are not imposing on anyone else.  In fact, we are telling others to do and feel the same about themselves!

When we are in control of ourselves, and have personal power over ourselves, we are in a place of strength, joy and freedom!

This is what works best for all of us!

Future Diary
In 1983, Mark Victor Hansen came to a Markson Management Services seminar and handed everyone a book with nothing in it. He called it Future Diary.

He then proceeded to tell us to write down everything we wanted as if it were already true...hence future diary.

I remember writing 5 things down that I really wanted, never thinking or believing that any of them would come true. All five did!

"On behalf of the New York Chiropractic Association, thank you for your time last evening at our monthly meeting.

Your presentation was well received and the feedback from the members was excellent. Your thoughts and insight regarding patient interaction and the practice of chiropractic were "right on" and hit the mark.

I hope to be able to extend another invitation to you at a later date to re-visit us and share more of your thoughts and your wealth of great information.

Your speaking skills have improved to where you have earned the title of master consultant and coach!"
