Have you ever noticed that people don't always get what you mean?
In other words, it's not what you say; it's what the other person gets!
It doesn't matter if it's your patient, a client, your children or your spouse. You have the right intent, you believe you're saying the right words, but somewhere in the middle, everything seems to get muddled! Why is this???
The answer is that perspective is everything! Here's a case in point:
Johnny grew up in a household with an alcoholic father. He swears he will never drink alcohol or have anything to do with it.
Sarah grew up in a home where having a glass of wine with dinner and at social events was perfectly acceptable...they meet!
Regardless of the "rightness" or "wrongness" of the opinion each has on alcohol, each will probably disagree with the other.
Here's the best part...neither is wrong!
We are all shaped by our basic personalities, life experiences, people we meet and things were learn.
The question becomes does your perspective serve you and others?!
You'll know the answers by looking at your life!
